Ploughlands Grayling Fishing

It's that time of year again!

As with the last couple of years, there will be a few days between now and the end of January when the grayling fishing at Ploughlands is of the menu.

Please drop me an e-mail for the full list of dates.  Otherwise keep an eye on the blog - I'll update it a few days before each of the relevant days.

As in previous years, this only affects the Ploughlands area.  The rest of our water will be open as usual.

ROAD CLOSURES AT MUSGRAVE & EASTFIELD BRIDGES

A quick heads up if you're planning on fishing at the start of the season.

According to this weeks Herald, Cumbria County Council are planning on closing the road at Musgrave Bridge on Wednesday 21st March and at Eastfield Bridge on Thursday 22nd of March (both between 9:30am & 3pm) in order to carry out bridge inspections.  This shouldn't stop you fishing but there will be diversions in place.

All of the dates are Saturdays - ALL OTHER DAYS ARE STILL OPEN TO FISH AND ALL OTHER STRETCHES ARE OPEN AND HAVE NO RESTRICTIONS.

PLEASE AVOID THE AREA ON THE DATES IN QUESTION OR WE LOSE ACCESS COMPLETELY.

GOOD CONDITIONS

The weather is dry and overcast.

VERY NICE START

Its a cool but very nice morning. Blue sky and no rain, plus the river is spot on.

PRETTY GOOD

The river is still dropping off and a bit coloured but is fishable, it may be a bit higher downstream of the becks though.
At the moment the weather is good with BLUE SKY present.

DROPPING SLOWLY

The eden is still 4-5" above its normal level and dropping slowly. You may find some areas that you can fish but I think it will be difficult going.

NO GOOD

All the showers recently keep bringing the level up and down which makes it almost impossible to read the levels.
At the moment it is up again and with showers on the way I would say its not going to drop much. Don't bother.

DROPPING SLOWLY

The Eden appears to be on its way down but is still 4-5" above the norm and is very peaty in colour.
The weather is dry and overcast at the moment.

UP AND DOWN

There has been that much rain falling recently that it is hard to keep up with which direction the levels are going.

At the moment it is fishable upstream of the main tribs but there has been a lot of rain overnight so it could/will change quickly as the day continues .

STILL RAINING

The Eden has come up a few inches and is slightly couloured but is still fishable. Regarding the weather, it is still raining.

WET MORNING

This is what my kids call 'summer holiday weather' basically crap weather. Wet and breezy but the river conditions are still good if your daft enough.

OVERCAST AND DRY

The river conditions are still good. There is some rain forecast but its dry so far.

LOVELY MORNING

The sun is out again and the river conditions are spot on. GO GO GO .

AND AGAIN

The weather is dry and the river is running very nicely for a day on the river.

GOOD AGAIN

The Eden is running at a nice height and the weather is overcast and dry.

The recent rain is still running off with a peaty colour to the water but the level is good. The weather is overcast and dry at the moment.

DROPPING OFF

The Eden has dropped off to a reasonable height with a beer colour to the water, it may be a bit higher downstream of the Belah/Scandal Becks.
The weather is good at the min.

UP AND DOWN

The river shot up last night after all the heavy showers and is still up 6-8" above normal at KS but dropping slowly. It may be fishable with fly in areas but it is more suitable for 'worming'.

It all depends how keen you are !!

I will be having a look at the web cam today and hopefully it will be back online soon,

Another nice spring day with plenty of sun this morning. The Eden is still lower than normal but fishing quite well.

The Eden is running low (it fishes well when its low) and the weather is dry and bright.

Bit of a cool start and showers forecast for later but the river conditions are still good.

There was lot of rain overnight and the Eden has shot up as a consequence and is in flood.

As you can see on the webcam the Eden is dropping again. There has been some more rain overnight but it hasn't affected the river level so far.

WET MORNING

Raining again ! The Eden has been up and down the last few days and is dropping off again now but conditions below KS could be difficult and there is every chance the river will come up again. It is currently running 5-6" above normal.

HORRIBLE !!

Wet,windy and still raining heavy. Do you need more ? The Eden came up 3-4" yesterday and then dropped off but I would think it highly likely that it will come up again today. Sorry about the web cam, we are having a few technical problems and it will be back on asap.

A dry and frosty start this morning and the river is running at its 'normal level' so make a mental note of the level on the web cam for future reference.

NEARLY THERE

The new season starts very soon. Due to work pressures I cannot promise to be able to put a report on every day but at least you have the web cam.
When the river drops to a normal level ( I will let you know) I would make a mental note of the level using the rocks on the bottom of the web cam pic then you have a reference.
Today the river is running slightly coloured and up about 3" on its normal level.

DROPPING SLOWLY

Its a very cool start this morning for the last day of the trout season but looks like its going to be a nice day.

The Eden is dropping and will be fishable in areas, mainly upstream of KS.

WET MORNING

It's not a very nice start today, it's persisting down.

At the moment the river is in a good state but I would expect it to rise later in the day.

GOOD AGAIN

The river conditions are still good and the weather is dry and overcast at the moment.

ALL GOOD

Its a cool overcast start and the Eden is in good condition for a day on the river.

GOOD CONDITIONS

The Eden is still slightly above normal but fishable.

The weather is cool and overcast.

DROPPING

As you can see on the cam the river is on its way down and it will be fishable in areas, probably the conditions will be better upstream of KS.

SAME AGAIN

The Eden still remains at a slightly higher level and does not appear to have dropped since yesterday.

SLIGHTY UP

Last nights rain has brought the Edens water level up and more rain has been forecast today.

DROPPING

The Eden is still dropping and will be fishable in areas ,upstream of KS mainly.

The weather is dry and cool.

NO GOOD

There has been some more rain overnight and its still raining now. As you can see on the web cam the level is up and will probably stay high all day.

GUESS WORK

Looks like the Eden has come up a Little bit overnight and some rain has fallen as well. So your guess is as good as mine regarding the river. Look at the web cam and river gauge @ Musgrave.

River Cam goes live on the Eden

KSDAA launched the first web cam (River Cam) on the Eden on 15.09.10. Anglers can now view the river live over the web. The River Cam together with the Daily Blog now give anglers the best chance of assessing fishing prospects before travelling. As you can see from the web cam pic the river is good to go.

STILL GOOD

The level has dropped at KS and is slightly above normal and it looks like we are in for a nice day.

DROPPING

The river is dropping off now but still has a tinge of colour in it.

So you have a frame of reference for the web cam pic the current level is 2-3 " above what I would class as normal at KS.

The Eden is going up and down all the time at the min and I can't keep track of it.
It appears to be dropping at the min but the fishing conditions are not good and the weather is wet and breezy.

The Eden is on its way down again but is not in good condition for fly fishing, there may be the odd bit upstream of KS that is OK but it will be a struggle, plus its still raining.

The river is a bit 'up and down' at the min but is fishable in areas.

The weather is breezy and overcast.

The Eden is dropping back to normal and should be fishable in areas.

There has been a lot of rain overnight and as a consequence the Eden is up and coloured and unfishable.

RAINING

It's a bit of a wet start this morning with some rain about but the river is still at it's normal height.

ALL GOOD

It's a dry, cool start and the river is still running at a normal level.

STILL GOOD

Plenty of rain has fallen overnight but the river level is still good .

GOOD AGAIN

The river conditions are still good but there is a lot of tree debris in the river because of the very high winds we had overnight.
The weather at the moment is dry and breezy.

OVERCAST AND DRY

The river conditions are still good and the weather is dry and cloudy.

NO CHANGE

The Eden is still running at a nice level and the weather is dry and sunny.
